The Sports Science Physiotherapy Centre is a well-recognized physiotherapy practice at the world-renowned Sports Science Institute of South Africa. It is staffed by experienced physiotherapists with a long history of active involvement in a variety of professional and amateur South African sport.
Our mission is to help people of all ages and activity levels achieve optimal health and wellness by offering comprehensive physiotherapy services that are evidence-based, personalized, and focused on prevention and rehabilitation. About Physiotherapy
The aim of physiotherapy is to help people achieve optimal physical function, movement, and quality of life. Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession that focuses on the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of physical impairments, disabilities, and pain. Through the use of various physical techniques, exercise, and education, physiotherapy aims to promote healing, reduce pain and inflammation, improve mobility, strength, and endurance, and prevent further injury or disability. Physiotherapists work with people of all ages and with a wide range of conditions, from acute injuries and chronic pain to neurological and respiratory disorders. The ultimate goal of physiotherapy is to help individuals achieve their maximum potential for physical health and wellbeing.

Recovery:
In order to achieve full recovery, we prescribe exercises in order to rehabilitate a condition, give sound advice, demonstrate the exercise program, and compile a program for the client with goals and allowing those attainable goals to work towards curing or resolving the injury. It’s a principle of self-empowerment and management through education to the client.
Common Injuries Treated
We take great interest in the treatment of all musculoskeletal dysfunction or injuries, including a variety of conditions such as:
- Lower Back Pain
- Headache and neck pain (including whiplash injuries)
- Shoulder, elbow and hand injuries
- Hip, knee and ankle injuries
- Repetitive Strain Injuries (tendonitis and tendinosis otherwise known as tennis elbow and golfers’ elbow just to name a few)
- Injuries sustained in a working environment.
- Acute traumatic and atraumatic injuries
- Sub-acute and chronic injuries
- Program prescription and advise to return to play
Orthopedic Rehabilitation
The SSPC is also involved in post-operative rehabilitation after surgery, including:
- Arthroscopic knee surgery
- ACL reconstruction
- Hip and knee replacement
- Hip Arthroscopies
- Shoulder dislocations, acromioplasty,
- Rotator Cuff repairs, and arthroscopies
- Foot and Ankle Surgery
- Spinal surgery
Fees
Please note: Accounts are to be settled after each consultation. Your account can be settled either in cash or by credit card.
We do not submit directly to your medical aid, but a detailed account will be provided which can be used to privately submit to the medical aid scheme for reimbursement. Please check with your medical aid before treatment if this is of concern.

Our Facilities
The Sports Science Physiotherapy Centre can be found on the ground floor of the Sports Science Institute of South Africa and patients have access to all the facilities at the institute during the treatment and rehabilitation of their conditions/injuries. Physiotherapy home visits can be requested for existing patients (subject to approval).

Friends, Affiliates and Associates:
We work closely with other excellent healthcare professionals to achieve the best possible outcome for our patients. This includes Biokinetics, Orthopaedic Surgeons, Sports Physicians, Sport Psychologists and Dieticians, all of whom are available for consultation at the Sport Science Institute of South Africa, and other reputable institutions.
We also work with reputable providers of good-quality medical products, such as strapping and bracing.
